Full-on Friend Day

Full-on Friend Day

I just spent a day and a half out of town with a dear friend and writing partner .  We cut our planned time together because of family needs, but we enjoyed (while also doing some meaningful work) every minute of it.  This time together got me thinking more about friends.  Because I am often out of town with family, and as I explained in Friends, I schedule intentional time with friends when I am in town.  Sometimes, the schedule turns into what I call a full-on friend day.

Here is an example of an actual full-on friend day this year.  After my morning sadhana and run, I zoom with an out-of-town friend.  This is a relatively new friend who is a champion of the work I do, and I am grateful for her in so many ways. Mid-morning I have coffee with another friend, she is my yoga, tarot, mindfulness, soul friend and we feed each other’s spirit needs.  Mid-day I got to meet a winter-friend, our travel schedules often keep us apart for a month at a time to walk and talk.  Mid-afternoon I picked up a friend who I deeply respect, and we went to a memorial service together.  Getting to at least spend time in the car together to and from the service talking.  I topped the full-on friend day off by meeting a friend I have had for quite a while, who sees in me things I don’t see (or maybe admit) to myself and is invaluable to me.

All of these friends fill me up, strengthen me, give me courage and when I leave them, I am more energized or more at peace, whichever one I needed.  Their presence has this power.  Therefore, they all meet the definition of sister friends.  When I think about this group of people and realize that even though this is a good size group, it is actually not all of my sister friends.  I feel beyond blessed with my good fortune.

Wishing you many, many full-on friend days in your future and mine.
